A temporary emergency leave of absence is available to students experiencing the serious illness or death of an immediate family member and who need to leave school for a short period of time.
Students may take up to 14 days of temporary leave for a serious illness or the death of an immediate family member. To request leave, click below and follow the steps. Students must meet with the Dean of Students Office, provide documentation, and arrange their own travel. International and IWORK students have additional requirements before departure.
To request a temporary emergency leave of absence, please follow the steps below:
- Students need to meet with the Dean of Students or his assistant to discuss their emergency situation and determine if it qualifies for an emergency leave of absence.
- Students must provide medical documentation backing up the reason for the emergency leave of absence.
- Students also need to inform their professors about their emergency leave, explain the reason for their absence, and indicate the duration of their leave.
- IWORK students need to obtain the travel request form from IWORK, get the proper signatures on it, and return it to the Dean of Students Office before departing for home.
- Students are required to pay for their own travel home and back to campus.
- A self-funded student does not need to fill out the IWORK form, but they do need to notify the Dean of Students Office of the dates they will be off campus.
- All international students will need to contact International Student Services (ISS) to get their travel documents in order so they can travel in and out of the country.
